The Environment Protection Act, 1994 has come into effect from the 1st of March 1995. It is an umbrella legislation providing a general policy framework for environmental protection enabling introduction of detailed regulations by policy makers. It has the flexibility and scope to deal with wide range of issues of emerging concern and at the same time has a provision for dealing with specific issues such as pollution control, waste management, Environment Impact Assessment etc
