The department of Environment
Now The Department of Environment in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (M.EN.R) comprises of four main technical divisions; Policy, Planning and Services (PPS); Nature and Conservation (NC); Landscape Management (LM) and Pollution Control and Environmental Impact (PC&EI). These four divisions fall under the responsibility of the Principal Secretary of the Department along with Accounts, Administration and Education, Information and Communications sections which form part of the PS's secretariat. Consult the structure below for more information. Then The Department of Environment (of then, the Ministry of Environment) was re-structured in mid 2003 with the objective of providing a better service to the public. Prior to its re-organisation, the Department of Environment was made up of two divisions; Environment and Policy Planning and Services (PPS). The PPS joined the Division of Environment in 2000 and it included the National Meteorological Services (NMS) amongst its sections. The Division of Environment included the Botanical Gardens, Conservation, Forestry, Environmental Assessment and Pollution Control sections. Come and gone In the past, the Seychelles Centre for Marine Research and Technology (SCMRT) was a unit under the Policy Planning and Services. It has now joined the Marine Parks Authority MPA and is independent of the Department of Environment. The Solid Waste and Cleaning Agency (SWAC) which in the past operated on its own, has now been absorbed under the PC and EI division of the Department Others It important to note that local authorities, such as the SCMRT-MPA mentioned above, along with the numerous Environmental Non-Governmental Organisations (ENGOs) work in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment, in maintaining the Seychelles Environment.
